Treatment and prognosis - Gilberts Syndrome

Patients diagnosed with GS do not need any specific treatment. At least, this is the way how physicians should behave according to the guidelines. Patients should be aware of GS’s mode of inheritance, recognise some of the side effects of the condition, such as fatigue, low energy, poor memory and increased sensitivity to some drugs such as Irinotecan.

GS is associated with increased severity and duration of neonatal jaundice. There is no significant difference between long-term outcomes in patients with Gilbert syndrome to those in the general population.
